Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation refers to areas of the skin that are darker in colour compared to the surrounding areas. This darkening occurs due to an overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour. Hyperpigmentation can appear as freckles, age spots, sunspots, melasma, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) caused by conditions like acne or eczema. It can be triggered by factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, or injury to the skin. Treatment options include topical creams containing ingredients like hydroquinone,
retinoids, kojic acid, and vitamin C.
